Rise of Nations is a very good game and you will enjoy it.
It combined concepts from turn-based strategy classics such as national borders, cities, and rare resources with the fast and fun game play of real time strategy games.
Reply:Total Annihilation and Dark Reign are a couple of good ones from the mid-late 90s. Both in the C%26amp;C vein, though.
You might consider God games like the Populous series and Black %26amp; White, though.
