If I turn the "FAN ON" in my centralized a/c, would it be costly OR is it ok if I turn them ON both same time?

I don't know whats the purpose for the fan incorporated in my a/c?

the fan in the furnace is the same fan used for ac, it is no more costly to run constant than to let it cycle with the heat or air, however, running all the time will shorten the life of the motor. the purpose of the fan is to distribute the air through your home . running it in the on position for cooling helps make it a little more efficient in terms of air filtration and comfort. doing so during the heating season will create

cold drafts between heat cycles. either way, it is pretty much a matter of preferance, more than anything. comment on 1st answer: fan has nothing to do with flue gas rising...

I own a HVAC company and I know when I see a good answer.
Reply:When using the AC, having the fan selector "ON" while I am home makes the temperature more even and confortable. Otherwise, I have cycles of cold and hot if I leave the fan on "Auto".

When I am at work and set the thermostat at home to cool at a higher temperature, I leave the fan on "auto" just to save that little more electricity.

A word of caution, do not do this when heating with gas. The burner needs to be at the correct temperature for the flue gases to properly rise.
