Why would my heat not work at all but the a/c works most of the time?

I have a 2001 Mazda protege and the heat hasn't worked in more than a year but the a/c usually works

Why would my heat not work at all but the a/c works most of the time?
That is because they are two separate systems that blow air out the same openings.

One works, the other needs repair.
Reply:check the heater core
Reply:Check Coolant and see the level, then check the fuse box for blown fuse.
Reply:dangerously low coolant

thermostat

heater core

some kind of wiring issue
Reply:this sounds like the air direction flaps in the heater box being jammed or not directing the air the right way. this usually requires a manual and removing most of the dash to get at the controls and the heater box.
Reply:FIRST CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL.

IF OKAY THEN CHECK THE INSIDE CABLE FOR THE A/C / HEATER CONTROL DOOR ASSEMBLY.
