If my chihuahua had a c-section the first time she had a baby..?

will she need one this time around?

If my chihuahua had a c-section the first time she had a baby..?
Not necessarily but it does depend on WHY she needed a cesarean in the first place. If it was because of a deformity then she may need it again but if it was due to a puppy getting stuck in the horn or litter size etc then maybe not.

One of my bi+ches just had a healthy litter of 8 in 5 hours without any issues yet last time she had to have a cesarean due to a pup getting stuck. It's the same with humans - it just depends on WHY they needed one.

HOWEVER: My vet was aware of the situation (I gave him a 'heads up' when she went into labour) but there was no drama at all. But I'm confident as I've helped with whelping many many times.

This is the type of thing you should be addressing with your vet in the PRE-WHELP check up.
Reply:Yes, probably. Most small dogs do. Have her spayed and you won't have to pay for another one.
Reply:Some C-sections are planned, as when a female has a history of delivery problems.

In other situations, the operation is done on an emergency basis when natural delivery fails.

Some owners choose to have the mother spayed following the C-section, but this is not required.

Most dogs that require a C-section due to birthing complications will generally need it again.

due to complications, some owners pre-schedule a c-section rather than trying a normal birth.

however, too many over a time can lead to some complications and eventually endager the b*tch and the pups.

if your dog has complications from birthing, its best to have her spayed for her protection.

you may also want to neuter your male if this is the route you take. it will protect both of them from reproductive cancers, accidental pregnancies, and birth issues.
Reply:Yes,and when you have the C-section done, have her spayed at the same time. She will still be able to produce milk for the puppies, although you may have to do supplemental feedings.Get the male neutered at the same time, and you won't have to worry about any more pregnancies;your dogs will be healthier, too.
Reply:Well why did you leave an unfixed male and an unfixed female alone together while she's in heat?? You're risking your dog's life by being so careless. Yes she will need another c-section. Poor thing, so much pain because of a careless owner.
Reply:Chances are good that she will need another one.

**That was basically INTENTIONAL. IF you have intact pets and the girl is in heat, YOU know what happens. Please. If you were that worried about it, you would have had them fixed after the FIRST litter.
Reply:Take it from a Vet Tech: After they had a c-section the first time, odds are, she''ll need one again. Speak with your veterinarian regarding this for any advise.
Reply:Most likely! If she had such difficulties the first time why on earth did you allow her to get pregnant again???
Reply:She has to be spayed. I breed dogs too, but I would never breed after a section. It's just cruel. Please spay her. If you want to breed, use a different female.

You can ask your vet about this. It would be safer to do another section rather than just trying to let her have her puppies normally.
Reply:It's a definite possibility.

You should really be discussing these things with your vet, dontcha think?

Edit*

No responsible owner of intact dogs allows the dogs to be left alone together, for even a second, when the ***** is in heat. Too bad you weren't more responsible. Get her spayed, so you don't have to deal with this ever again.
Reply:yeah she would
Reply:Yes, it's the same with humans once you've had a c-section it weakens the walls of the uterus as well as the pelvic muscles so that they won't be able to push out other pups. If your considering breeding her again, it may not be the best idea because the c-sections can get costly and you may want to consider spaying her.
Reply:oh my,,,, you bred her again? most likely c section... save your money.... oh boy,,, how very very sad for your dog
Reply:Still not spayed and you have a male not neutered and it was an "accident"???

You are irresponsible to the point where it these poor dogs should be given to a rescue - when are you going to get these dogs neutered - after the poor thing is dead????

Of course she will need another C-section, maybe you could get her spayed before she dies???

What the heck are you thinking of??
Reply:Most likely, specially if she is a tea cup, My tea cup 3 pound chihuahua is so small that i finally opted to keep her puppy less, i just couldn't risk loosing her!
