What does B.C. and A.D. stand for in terms of time?

ive always thought B.C. was before christ and A.D. was after death

What does B.C. and A.D. stand for in terms of time?
BC means before Christ

AD means Anno domino which means "the year of our lord"

BC is referred to (in a more "politically correct way" as BCE which means before common era)

So BCE is used to refer to before common era (which just means before Christ) but it came into place when people that weren't followers of Jesus thought that our dates shouldn't have to do with him... Weird huh!?

Note that some countries believe Jesus came later than what we say and believe he terms are the same but they are in a different year to us.
Reply:B.C. or B.C.E. (Before the Common Era) Is a designation of time beginning before the year 1. Therefore the Common Era begins with the year 1. The Anno Domini system also begins with the year 1. These designators are therefore the same as far as time goes. When written, it is custumary to put the B.C. after the year. e.g., 23 B.C. and for A.D. it is common to put the A.D. Before the year. e.g., A.D. 2008.

210 B.C. would be 210 years 'Before Christ.' 210 A.D. would be 210 years 'Anno Domini' (in the year of the Lord). These have been replaced in newer publications with C.E. (Christian Era) for A.D. and B.C.E. (before Christian Era) for B.C. The periods are often omitted.
Reply:That is correct, but actually they are from Latin

AD stands for Anno Domini

BC has no latin equivelent, but it is easier to remember than the original latin which was Ante Christum Natum (aCn) meaning before christ.
Reply:Wrong. AD stands for ANNO DOMINI or YEAR OF OUR LORD.
Reply:BC: Before Christ

AD: Anno domini ("in the year of our lord" I think.. It's latin)

a lot of people use CE now, meaning "common era" because of the religous ties to AD.
Reply:AD- anno domini
Reply:No such thing. CE %26amp; BCE are used.
Reply:BC Before Christ

AD Anno Domini (Latin: In the Year of Our Lord; referring to the Gregorian calendar system)
Reply:A.D. stands for anno domini, Latin for "the year of our Lord"
Reply:AD stands for anno domini, meaning "the year of our lord"
Reply:You are correct
