Both Car B and C leave at the same time, they are going in the same direction.?

They both are traveling at a constant speed, Car B at 74km/hr and Car C at 89km/h. How far is Car B from the gas station 5.0 hours later?..Than How far is Car C from the Gas station 5.0 hours later?......I would like to know how to work the problem and the correct answer if possible..The Whole arrangment of the question just confused me.

Car B is traveling at 74km/hr for five hours so 74*5 is 370km from the gas station. Car C is traveling at 89km/hr for five hours so 89*5 is 445 km from the gas station. Word problems suck! Good luck!

Reply:they do not give u the distance to the gas station so they would be their total distance minus x (gas station location )= y (distance to-location)


like 370-x(GS) = y (total left)or 370-x=y
Reply:This is an easy question i guess.. all what is required is the distance between the gas station and each car after 5 hours of URM by both cars B and C


x=vt.... where x is the distance, v is the speed and t is the time


for car B: x=74*5=370 km


for car C: x=89*5=445 km


this is supposed to be a very easy question... for 8th or 9th graders... unless i miss understood the question

Reply:Sounds pretty basic. Car B 74km in one hour, times 5 hours = 370 km away from the station. Car C is 89 x 5 = 445 km. They're now 75 miles apart 445 - 370 = 75

Had you stated that they both started from a gas station, or to figure this from their common starting point, this could have been calculated easily. The way you show it one would have to make an assumption (which she other answerers did). I don't assume!
Reply:First question is easy - if car b is travelling at 74km/hr, then in 5 hours it will be 5hr*74km/hr = 370km.





Same for car c - 5hr*89km/hr = 445km.
